Height Standard
The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) recommends placing your temperature sensor between 1.25 meters (4 feet 1 inch) and 2 meters (6 feet 7 inches) above the ground.
Optimal Location
The location of your weather station is crucial for accurate data. Avoid placing the station under trees, overhangs, or in alleys to prevent inaccurate wind readings and other data errors. Ensure it has a clear area around it to minimize interference.
Temperature Siting
- Always place the thermometer sensor in the shade with good ventilation.
- If installed on a rooftop, it should be at least 5 feet above the surface.
- If placed above grass, maintain a height of at least 5 feet from the ground.
- Keep the thermometer at least 50 feet away from paved surfaces to avoid heat distortion.
Humidity Sensor Placement
To measure accurate humidity, place the sensor at least 50 feet away from trees or bodies of water to avoid localized humidity effects.
Wind Speed Measurement
- The standard height for wind speed measurement is 10 meters (33 feet) above ground level, preferably on a rooftop.
- Ensure the anemometer is the highest object in the area, ideally 7 feet or more above any nearby obstructions.
