How does Hivemapper work

To join the Hivemapper community, you just need to do a few things:

  1. Get a dashcam and install it in your car to capture images.
  2. Install the Hivemapper app on your smartphone (iOS, Android) to collect the images from the dashcam and transfer them to Hivemapper.
  3. Install the Phantom app on your smartphone to create a wallet and log in to Hivemapper.

Frequently asked questions

When will the Bee Dashcam be shipped?

Deliveries will start in Q3 and will be processed according to the “first order, first ship” principle.

Are any LTE costs already included in the price?

No, if the LTE connection is used, additional costs may be incurred.

Can I use Hivemapper with a bicycle or motorcycle?

No, the dashcam must be mounted on a vehicle with at least four wheels in order to collect usable images.

Does the app have to be open while driving?

No. The app does not even need to be in the car while driving to create maps.

Is my data anonymous?

Yes, the Hivemapper network takes data protection very seriously.

Who owns the content?

There are two types of content:

Original content - This is the images, videos and associated metadata (including GPS tracks) that you have collected and uploaded.

Derived content - The mapping engine of the Hivemapper network uses the original content to create the map content, visualizations and network statistics.

As a contributor, you own the original content and can use it as you wish. Hivemapper Inc. has an irrevocable and exclusive global license to the derived map content.

What to do if an upload fails?

If an upload fails, check the following:

  1. You are using the latest version of the Hivemapper app and the dashcam firmware. You can find the latest version of the app in the App Store or Play Store. The firmware should be updated automatically the next time you connect your dashcam.
  2. You are connected to your Wallet.
  3. You have mounted the dashcam correctly and are collecting usable images.
